Designed for Teachers and Counselors
As stressed by No Child Left Behind (NCLB), Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain Curriculum features developmentally appropriate opportunities to teach vocabulary using a combination of methods and contexts. The lessons in the Curriculum Guide are correlated to the following standards and competencies: National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and the academic performance standards all fifty states.

Thematic Reading and Writing Units
Rich teacher-led readings feature universal themes, which easily supplement any language and counseling program. Targeted comprehension activities combine with daily Student Funbook activities to reinforce story concepts and vocabulary comprehension.

Diverse Vocabulary Development
As stressed by the National Reading Panel (NRP), Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain Curriculum teaches vocabulary both directly and indirectly by using a combination of methods and contexts. Rich group readings, student-friendly vocabulary explanations, and engaging classroom discussion activities allow students to easily understand and retain word meanings. Program words have been carefully chosen for use in students’ everyday lives and have been scaled for grade-level comprehension.
Supplements and Enhances Core Curriculum
Short Readings from the storybook, Orbie and The Comfort Crew, combined with group discussion activities are designed for ease of use in classroom. Vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing worksheets can also be used as rapid reinforcement of a broad range of language skills.

Support For English Language Learners
To aid in the acquisition of comprehension, the Pre-K level book, Orbie and The Comfort Crew, is also translated into Spanish. In addition, student activities in the Student Funbook are translated into Spanish. Varied vocabulary contexts give the ELL student multiple opportunities to hear pronunciation of new, rich words, which they may not be exposed to in daily communication.
Addresses Comprehensive Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program Needs
The Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain Curriculum reflects the Guidance Competency Model delivery system components of Guidance Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Services and Systems Support. The Curriculum lessons are designed to be used to produce change in student behavior. In addressing the Guidance Curriculum component, our lessons are structured to be delivered to all students. They directly express the tenets of the standards and competencies - academic, career development, and personal/social with direct correlations to the Personal/Social Development competencies and standards.
The Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain Curriculum addresses the components of Individual Planning. The lessons are ongoing and contain systematic activities, which are specifically designed to assist students learn to establish and develop personal goals and enable them to develop future plans. The objective is to use the materials to effectuate positive change in student behavior. When those crises do occur and require Responsive Services, The Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain Curriculum was developed to address those critical needs. Because the lessons of the Curriculum exemplify a comprehensive developmental guidance program’s goals, the lessons meet guidance counselors’ objectives to implement a comprehensive developmental guidance program that assists them in also addressing the System Support components of campus counseling programs.
Many times teachers are only aware of the academic needs of their students. The infusion of the Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain Kindergarten Curriculum into the guidance program provides the opportunity for counselors to assist teachers in addressing the comprehensive needs and concerns of their students (academic, career, personal/social).
The implementation of the Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain Curriculum into a comprehensive developmental guidance model creates an inter-disciplinary team effort in addressing students’ needs and educational goals. This interdisciplinary team is the way to have an integrated approach to the total education of a student, so the guidance program is not an isolated or independent part of the school program. One of the best expected results is to have more collaboration between teachers and counselors in achieving student improvement in performance and self-management skills. Counselors and teachers together are now equipped to more readily participate in at-risk student identification and implementation of appropriate guidance responsive services to promote student success. Counselors are now equipped to conduct/participate with the teachers to help increase teachers’ awareness as to how counselors can be proactively of help to them instead of being a last resort for behavioral intervention.

Improves School Climate
The opportunity for counselors to deliver these materials in a counseling curriculum as well for counselors to help teachers use tools that combine these elements allow the campus climate to be less stressful for both students and teachers when children are taught to deal with difficult social issues productively, which leads to more effective learning, more successful testing outcomes, and socially healthier children who will then have the skill set to manage their emotions. Students win because they are taught (1) to be in control of their behavior and (2) to deal with the negative behavior of others resulting in fewer disruptions in class and the sustainability of a more positive learning experience with more focus on instruction for each of them. Additionally, schools will benefit from:
• Safer school environment
• Less aggressive behavior of students
• Improved student attitude toward others
• Improved attitude toward school work

15 Days of Caring Curriculum Set
Countless numbers feel the tug to “right” our children’s worlds but don’t know where to start. Fortunately the start has already been established and all you have to do is become a champion for caring.
15 Days of Caring – More than a dream! Become a champion for caring…
Life would have it that something very simple began about a year ago with the students at J.L. Everhart Magnet School in Longview Texas. As the children were studying the idea of Caring they decided to jot down their ideas to share with one another in class and what resulted, with some editing, illustrating, and publishing help from The Trevor Romain Company, was an amazing little book Who Cares? I Do!
Once in print, this book took on an expanded vision for all who had been involved. Could this little book, with supporting material, change the world? The teachers from the elementary schools in Longview Texas believe so and have enthusiastically taken time to write a Teacher’s Guide. From that simple beginning, Who Cares? I Do! along with supporting material, has evolved into a classroom/campus participation set that has set the stage for a 15 Day Caring Campaign with a potentially global impact.

The 15 Days of Caring Curriculum Set includes:
1 Bulletin Board
20 Student Books
20 Student Journals
120 Stickers
1 Downloadable Teacher's Guide

Here is your ticket to become a champion for caring!
Texas IB Schools and the schools and administrators of Longview ISD involved in this Caring Campaign are not equipped to handle the marketing of these materials and have engaged the help, once again, of The Trevor Romain Company (TTRC) in Austin TX. Today, with their help, these materials are more readily available to you.
Start the process of getting involved today by purchasing the classroom set.

Who Cares I Do
Located in the Piney Woods of East Texas, J. L. Everhart Magnet School…
An International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme campus, educates a diverse student body through the efforts of dedicated teachers. In May 2009, the students studied what it means to be a caring person. Each student then wrote a personal scenario showing caring in action. After much thought and discussion, the classes selected their best scenario. This book represents these thoughts of the students by the amazing illustrations and linked by beautiful edits. As a work of love and joy, the children hope their thoughts will help all students become more caring so that their schools, homes and communities can become better for everyone. The book is a dual language book in Spanish and English.

Bullies Are A Pain In The Brain
Every child needs to know what to do when confronted by one. This book blends humor with serious, practical suggestions for coping with bullies.
Trevor Romain reassures kids that they're not alone and it's not their fault if a bully decides to pick on them. He explains some people are bullies and describes realistic ways to become "Bully-Proof," stop bullies from hurting others, and get help in dangerous situations.
And if bullies happen to read this book, they'll find ideas they can use to get along with others and feel good about themselves—without making other people miserable.

Tests Stink Book
Tests are hard. Tests are scary. In fact, tests stink!
True or False? Tests Stink!
But no matter how kids (and parents, and teachers) feel about tests, they’re part of life. To succeed in school, kids need to ask, "How can I be a better test-taker?"
This book has the answers. In the tradition of Trevor’s first Free Spirit book, How to Do Homework Without Throwing Up, it offers proven strategies and practical advice . . . plus plenty of humor and goofy cartoons. As kids smile and laugh their way through the pages, they’ll discover tips and information that will help them survive and thrive in all kinds of test situations.
Topics include: how to overcome test anxiety, procrastination, and perfectionism; how to prepare for specific types of tests (multiple choice, true-false, timed, take-home, standardized); how to handle cheaters; how to get extra help from tutors, mentors, and/or study groups; the pros and cons of guessing; how to feel better about tests in general; and much more.
Other study guides can be dry, boring, and much toooo lonnnng. True or False? Tests Stink! is fun, entertaining, and (like Trevor’s other books) small but mighty. It can inspire even reluctant and anxious students to do and be their best on test days.

Divorce is painful and confusing for everyone involved, especially kids.
Taking The "Duh" Out of Divorce
Using gentle humor, original music and a compelling storyline, Trevor Romain uses Skye's experience to give kids practical, helpful advice for dealing with the pain of divorce - such as knowing that it isn't their fault, they shouldn't take sides, don't hide their emotions and talking to friends can really help. After all, as Skye discovers, her parents aren't divorcing her - they love her!

How To Do Homework Without Throwing Up
Everybody who goes to school does homework. You are not alone.
How To Do Homework Without Throwing Up
And everyone feels just as sick as you do when they have to do homework. Trevor Romain knows how horrible homework can be, and kids will see this right away as they page through this book, grin at the cartoons, and smile at Trevor's funny insights.
Meanwhile, they'll discover valuable truths and pointers about homework: "People who say homework is a waste of time don't know what they are talking about." "The best way to get your homework done without feeling sick every time you see it is to just do it." Kids will also learn how to make a homework schedule, when to do the hardest homework (first!), the benefits of doing homework, and more—serious suggestions delivered with wit and humor because laughter makes learning fun.

Cliques, Phonies, & Other Baloney
Cliques can make you sick. If you’re on the outside, you’re treated like dirt. And if you’re on the inside, you have to follow the rules.
Cliques, Phonies, & Other Baloney
Who needs more rules at school? Written for every kid who has ever felt excluded or trapped by a clique, this book blends humor with practical advice as it tackles a serious subject.
Trevor Romain starts by explaining what cliques are and why they exist: because everyone wants to have friends. He reveals why some cliques are so annoying—and often full of phonies. And he shares the secret to being popular: just be yourself! Trevor knows how to get through to kids. As readers smile at his cartoons and laugh at his jokes, they’ll also be learning skills they need to make and keep friends—real friends, not people who pretend to be cool.
They’ll discover that some supposedly “popular” kids are lonely and miserable inside. And they’ll pick up important self-esteem tips that will help them feel good about themselves (because there’s no need to let a bad clique spoil a perfectly good day).

What On Earth Do You Do When Someone Dies?
When someone dies, adults are often involved with their own loss and grief and not as available to children as they might otherwise be.
What On Earth Do You Do When Someone Dies?
This little book, full of concrete advice and expressive illustrations, offers the comfort and reassurance that children need during these difficult times. Written to and for kids, it’s also recommended for parents and other relatives, educators, counselors, and youth workers.
When Trevor Romain’s father died, Trevor didn’t know what to feel, say, or do. Shocked, saddened, and confused, all he could say was . . . wow. As he started understanding what had happened, he began writing about his experiences and feelings. His new book—simple, insightful, and straight from the heart—is for any child who has lost a loved one or other special person.
Trevor talks directly to kids about what death means and how to cope. He asks the kinds of questions kids have about death—Why? How? What next? Is it my fault? What’s a funeral?—in basic, straightforward terms. He describes and discusses the overwhelming emotions involved in grieving—sadness, fear, anger, guilt—and offers practical strategies for dealing with them. He also suggests meaningful ways to remember and honor the person who has died.

Stress Can Really Get On Your Nerves!
More kids than ever feel worried, stressed out, and anxious every day.
Stress Can Really Get On Your Nerves!
Parents and teachers may not know—because kids don’t want to talk about it, or they don’t know how to put their stress or worries into words. Their “secret stress” surfaces as stomachaches, headaches, fatigue, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, and an inability to concentrate. These and other stress-related symptoms can have a negative effect on school performance, family life, and friendships.
New from the best-selling authors of True or False? Tests Stink!, this book is a helping hand for kids and an eye-opener for adults. Reassuring words, silly jokes, and light-hearted cartoons let kids know they’re not the only worry-warts on the planet—and they can learn to manage their stress. A “What, Me Worry?” section describes the causes of stress and its physical and emotional effects. “How to Be a Panic Mechanic” gives kids ideas for dealing with stress and being stronger and more assertive.
Upbeat, positive, fact-filled, and friendly, this is the book on stress for kids and young adolescents.

The Other Side Of The Invisible Fence
A story that will help both children and adults understand the true meaning of the word compassion.
The Other Side Of The Invisible Fence
In the wake of Nelson Mandela's appointment as President of the new South Africa comes a children's story as powerful as the fight for freedom itself.
The Other Side Of The Invisible Fence is a stunning tale that paints a beautiful, yet shockingly vivid portrait of South Africa as it moves from the apartheid years to the present.
The Other Side Of The Invisible Fence is about suffering. About hope. About change.

Reviews
The "One of a Kind" compilation CD is a wonderful piece of music for children and adults alike. Trevor Romain has a real gift at getting across his message in simple words that children can easily understand. But there is nothing silly or simplistic about his words of hope, aimed to help children cope with challenges such as death, divorce, and facing fear, to name a few. Composer and producer Carl Thiel is equally gifted in his ability to turn Trevor's lyrics into songs, then to match the songs themselves with a diverse group of Austin artists, who bring them to life. "One of a Kind" is delightful from start to finish.

James E. Wilcox, D. Ed.
Superintendent
This book embodies all that The Trevor Romain Company stands for. I am so proud that our company was asked to partner with Longview ISD to work on this project. It was an honor for me to illustrate such heartfelt words of caring and compassion and for our company to publish this book.

YOU CAN PURCHASE ADDITIONAL SET COMPONENTS SEPARATELY
Available only in conjunction with the purchase of a Classroom Set. Contact us at 1-877-876-6246 for quantities and pricing.
